An Un-Wedding Post: Dallas Birth Photography- Presbytarian Hospital of Dallas

I know.  I know.  I’m a wedding photographer!  However another one of my most favorite things to photograph are births.  I don’t really market myself as a birth photographer but if I am lucky and priveledged enough to attend the birth of an already client of mine, I’m in!  That’s what makes this little angel’s arrival so special.  I photographed her parent’s wedding and now the birth of their first baby!  Now, let me preface what I am about to say with this little tidbit.  I am not a doctor.  I have my own opinions.  My opinions have nothing to do with the choices of my clients.  What you want to do with your “Queen Victoria”, “vajayjay” “hoohaw” “sissy” is up to you.  Not me.  HOWEVER, even though I did not have an unmedicated birth (I wish I knew then what I know now) I am an advocate of as little medical intervention as possible.  Doctors are here for a reason.  Sometimes it’s necessary.  Sometimes, we can have a midwife.  We can even have babies at home, too.  It’s safe if you are low risk.  Know your facts.  That’s all I’m saying here.

As I was leaving the operating room from this birth (yes, the OB let me in!) I overheard a doctor telling her patient that since she had needed to have a C-section with her first baby, she would probably most definitely need a C-section with all of her subsequent births.  I nearly cried because although this can be true depending on the type of C-section incision and your body and your baby, it is NOT the end all be all!  Enter the VBAC!  Ultimatley a healthy happy baby and mom are what’s important but I think that so many women out there are missing out on what their bodies were created by our God, our Creator to do… have a vaginal birth the good old fashioned way.  Having only experienced this from behind the lense of a camera, the emotions that I have felt watching women deliver naturally is unexplainable.  It makes you laugh and cry all at the same time.  The way a mom can “catch” her baby as she emerges from her body into this world is unlike anything else I’ve seen.  It’s the first thing her baby feels.  Her warmth.  Her skin.  Her arms.  The sound and beat of her heart from the outside.  Please enjoy these thought provoking and amazing stories of women who have chose to have a VBAC delivery from the very lovely and fabulous Donna Ryan of Banned From Baby Showers and relish in this delicious little bundle!  And don’t forget to leave me a comment.  C’mon!  Tell us all how gorgeous you think this little girl is!!

Wedding Album Alternative- A Crazy Cool Idea

Wow!!! So it has been a really long time since I’ve blogged. I’m really sorry! But you’ll be happy to know that I’m back! So many things have changed with me personally but I leave that for another post.:)Now on to the good stuff! So I’ve met with bride after bride after bride over the last few months and each time, I hear the same thing. “Katie, we LOVE these wedding albums! They are gorgeous, but I’m just not sure what we would really do with one.” or “These are so awesome but we have a budget we are trying to stick to.” With the economy, the rising costs of products on our end and brides trying to stay within a budget I’ve started offering brides digital albums. Here’s the scoop on these. I will design your album and once you’ve approved it, you get the pages on CD so that when you are ready, you can order your own album at a fraction of the cost. I know, I know. There’s probably many-a-photographer out there cringing as I type, but listen. I’m here for my brides and grooms. Your wedding story is not in your individual images. The story is in your album. Photographers spend many many hours in front of the computer recreating your day digitally so that you can remember every detail, every emotion and every moment from your day. Looking at individual prints is fun but they won’t bring you back to that day. As a matter of fact I ran across this post from a former bride of mine and I can’t explain in words to you how much joy it brought me!

As if you can’t tell, I’m a sucker for happy brides, sweet father-daughter moments and giddy grooms! Congrats to Beth and Aaron! More pictures to come from their Mansfield wedding.:)
Another crazy cool idea I found is a 3-D viewer! I KNOW! RIGHT? How cool is that?! It looks just link the one you had as a kid. (Holla!!! to all the children of the 80′s!) Here’s the skinny. For a nominal fee and I do mean nominal, you can purchase a 3-D viewer and a set of your wedding day images on the round disc for your viewing fun! All you do is choose your favorite images from the CD that you get from me and upload them to their site. You might be saying, “Yeah, that’s cool and all, but what would I do with it?” How about leaving it on a side table so you can pick it up any time and skim through your images. Or put it on your entry way table for guests to enjoy as they visit you. Orrrrrr, give it as a gift to your parents or wedding party! And don’t forget the kiddos! How neat would it be for them to be able to one day just pick up your sweet little vintage viewer and see your wedding?! I’m thinking these digital album layouts I create could easily be used to put inside the viewer as well! Hmmmmm…. sounds like it might be giveaway time but in the meantime, you can check out their site by clicking on the picture and don’t forget… leave me a comment and tell me what you think!

Cara + Geoff | Engagement Pictures at White Rock Lake & Bishop Arts District

Meet Cara and Geoff!  This sweet couple found each other while working for Dannon Yogurt and are planning a wedding for this coming June.  Cara reminds me so much of myself when I was wedding planning for myself back in 2006.  She recently took a job with her company in Colorado and her sweet fiance still lives here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Looking back I was still having a blast planning my big day but my now husband David was stationed in Virginia with the US Navy, I was living in Tennessee (out first future home together) and our wedding was taking place at The Sanford House here in Arlington.  Despite some awful Dallas traffic and some technical difficulties (my iphone decided to die) we had a super time taking their engagement pictures at The Bishop Arts District in Dallas and The Bath House at White Rock Lake.  Poor Geoff was even forced to do a little dancing but he did a great job anyway and their pictures turned out fabulous.  Enjoy the love!

Dallas Weddings | Creative Guest Book Ideas | Hickory Street Annex

I’ve been obsessed with wedding guest books lately.  Everytime I go to a wedding I see the same old guest book with the same old list of signatures.  What do brides do with their guest book after the wedding?  Do you keep your list of names in the book?  Do you shove it into a box somewhere?  Do you put it out on the coffee table and read over the names over coffee?  I don’t know, but it’s got me thinking.  I did a little research on wedding guest book ideas and came up with some pretty cool ideas.  Take a look at what I found and enjoy some engagement photo eye candy while you’re at it.

Try finding a coffee table on a subject that you and your fiance adore and have your guests sign on the pages of the book.  Now you have something beautiful to look at that’s practical and elegant and serves as a wonderful memoir of who attended your wedding.  Check out www.rizzoliusa.com for some beautiful inspiration.  Aren’t Racheal and Jordan just so much fun?!  I was laughing the whole time while photographing them!  And what about these adorable thumbprint guest books?  Well, they’re not exactly guest books.  Have your guest sign in with a print and when the wedding is over, frame it and hang it!  A perfect reminder of everyone that celebrated your wedding with you!  There’s even a link in there to download your own free template so be sure to scroll down so you don’t miss out on that little gift!

One more goody for you.  Check out  Elizabeth’s post at After Yes, a fabulous Dallas/Fort Worth wedding event planner.  I loved one of her recent posts on some wedding guest book ideas.  You will love, love, love her ideas on moving away from the traditional guest book and doing something with a bit more flare.  She never disappoints!  Have an idea of your own you want posted?  Send it over and I’ll check it out!  If you liked what you read here on creative wedding guest book ideas leave me some love below.
